Greetings,
The battery on my 4 year old computer was getting low, so I went into the Standard CMOS Setup in CMOS Setup Utility, and copied all the relevent information (size, cylinders, head, etc.), bought a new battery, disconnected the computer's power cord, extracted the old battery, popped in the new one, reconnected the power cord, switched the computer on, went back into the Standard CMOS Setup, reapplied the setup information, saved & exited --- then got the error message "Primary Master Hard Disk Fail".
Any ideas what to do next?
Thanks for any help you can give.

If your Cmos has an auto detect for the Hard drive try that.

cherylann: Welcome to PC guide.

I hate it when you have a good plan and it doesn't work.

What were the original settings for Primary/master?

Like Rick, I have found that the auto detect works best if bios supports it. Welcome to the PC Guide.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. Before I got back on line to read the answers, a friend suggested I try the "jiggle" method (jiggle all wires and cables to make sure there is a good connection). I did, and it worked.

Way to go Cherylann.

Good 'ol "jiggle" method.

;)

Now if we just didn't "jiggle"

when we brushed our teeth.

:D
