For no reason, one day my mouse quit working. When the system would boot up it would say no PS/2 mouse detected. Even though it clearly plugged in, I tried a different PS/2 mouse and still the same error message. I finally just got an old serial mouse to use. Unfortunetly, I use my serial port with my digital camera, so it makes it a bit troublesome to unhook my mouse to use the camera to download pictures. Is there something wrong my PS/2 hookup with the motherboard or what? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome, bjacobm! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif First make sure the PS/2 ports are still enabled in BIOS setup. If yes, open Control Panel, double-click System, and click the Device Manager tab. Double-click Mouse to expand the category, select the PS/2 mouse port, and then click the Remove button. Answer "yes" to any "are you sure" type questions. Say "no" to the restart question, and instead close everything that's open, then shut down Windows normally. Unplug the serial and plug in the PS/2 mouse, then power up again. On startup, Windows will detect the "new" hardware. I'm not sure, but if you had to install any manufacturer's software with the serial mouse, you'll probably have to uninstall it.

If you can't get the PS/2 port working, you should be able to pick up a serial splitter cable from most computer stores that will allow you to operate two devices off of one port. That may not be the best solution, because sometimes devices will not share a port, but it might be worth a shot. Also, if you have any USB ports, you can pick up USB mice pretty cheap. None of this fixes your problem, but it might make things a little easier if you can't get the port working.
