Hi to those who responded to my earlier request. I uninstalled HP and went through several ways of reinstalling HP (uninstalling and reinstalling each time). I still ended up with the printer working (LPT1) yet under other devices within device manager parallel device shows the yellow ?. What is interesting is for the parallel device the file name is different from the file name for LPT1. Could this be my problem? And if so, how can I correct this? By the way HP's site says 2k has the drivers for it's deskjet printers.

Have you tried to Remove the other parallel device in Device Manager?
Have you checked the settings for parallel devices in your Bios?

I don't remember the details of your original problem, you may want to copy some of that here. It is probably most helpful to continue the old thread rather than starting a new one so that it is easier to see the history of what has already been done.

You're right Budfred, I should have continued it under the old thread. I did wonder if anyone would bother to look at an old thread; perhaps that was my reasonings for starting a new thread. Good suggestions you've made and will check them out.

Anyone who responded to your first thread would probably see the continuation because of the email notice when someone replies to a post. In addition, any new post in an old thread takes that thread to the top of the thread list and this makes it more likely that people will respond. I will sometimes answer a question that I only have a partial answer to so that it will go to the top and get seen by some of the more experienced Geeks here.

Good luck on trying those things and post again with more background if you still need help.
