Hi, ALL:

My PC cannot boot now after I moving it from one bedroom to another. After the moving I turn it on and only see and hear the hardisk running a while and CD-ROM light flash but it DID NOT load the WIN98 and the screen is not showing at all. It looks like dead...... Only the power supply running and nothing else....

It happened after I moving the PC to living room and reconnect every cables. Is anyone know where is the possible problem? Is there an easy way to test or fix? Since it is a very cheap one (Emachine 300 celeron with 3GB HD, I bought it about 2 years ago) I would not like to spend too much money to repair it. The power supply already broken once. and I have spent $80 to get it fix by BestBuy technician.

Any suggestion is appriciated....

Steven

I forget to told you that The power switch button is not function now. Each time I have to plug and unplug the power cable to start/shutoff the PC. But I could not use the button to turn off the power....

My guess is that the video to monitor cable is not plugged in correctly...when you unplugged the unit my guess is one of the "screws" that hold the monitor cable on......is unscrewed and not allowing you to put it into the vid card all the way [just a guess mind you]. Does the computer give ONE beep when you first turn it on with everything plugged in?? If it does, then someone here can take you further on the quest to get it up and going again....hopefully without spending any money$$$$ !! To "work around" the on/off switch problem....plug it into a power strip and turn it off with the power strip on/off switch.

Not to cast any aspersions on eMachines http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif but the move may have been enough to loosen up something inside. Are you comfortable with taking the case cover off and checking things inside? If so, make sure the CPU, RAM, and video card are completely seated.

There's something else you might check concerning the computer/monitor-- It may sound silly, but if everything else appears to be mechanically running, is it possible that you may have accidently bumped your montior's controls during the move and turned down the contrast and/or brightness controls. Doing so would make the monitor appear as is it wasn't working. Believe it or not, I've seen it happen before. It might be worth checking.

Don't laugh (alright some of you may laugh - long hard and loud http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif), but the other day I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out why my monitor wasn't working.....well, I found that the displays controls (brightness and contrast) had been "adjusted" by my daughter. So, yes, sometimes it REALLY is the simple stuff, with moving things around always start simple and work up.
