Me and my friend are building a PC with a CG ATX 6044L Mid Tower Case w/AMD and P4 300W PS USB-- we installed the P4VXAD motherboard, the P4 processor, one 512mb stick of DDR ram (and more crap obviously) We installed the processor with the heatsink and fan using arctic silver. Put in the one stick of ram, put in all of the power connectors to that stuff. Put in the AGP GeForce 2 vid card.

First problem: We're not sure where to connect the 2 internal-speaker wires. So we cant tell if there are any beeps etc...

Second problem: The fan on the video card spins, but nothing shows on screen. I've connected a CD rom and a hard drive, when I hook up the cdrom to the ide cable it wont open, but only when its with the power it will open.

This seems very odd and I would like to know what is wrong. I always need a better diagram of how to install all of the wires from that specific case to the motherboard because the directions are very very unclear to me.

Thanks in advance
...Joe

It appears from the manual I downloaded that the explanation is not all that great for connecting the speaker wires and LEDs.

If you look on Page 5 where the diagram of the Motherboard is displayed, you will see on the right side of the board the word PANEL. In conjunction with Page 6 it shows PANEL-connector for case switches and LEDs.

Most often on this bank of connectors you will also see the SPK indicating the case speaker connection. It is often a bit difficult to determine which is the positive and ground. If nothing happens just remove the connector and switch the polarity.

I would leave the CD-ROM disconnected when trying to see if you can get through POST. Actually, I would suggest just a stick of RAM, the Video Card, and Monitor. You would want to check to see if there is an LED on the Motherboard itself...make sure it is off before plugging and unplugging things.

Also, make sure you are taking precautions to avoid static electricity by grounding yourself before handling the components.

I've tried without the cdrom or hard drive being in, to no avail. The main problem with the internal speaker is that there are four connections according tot he manual and only two wires running from the speaker. I've tried all possiblities I think, but I will try again. By the way, how many beeps would be good? One?

I'll reply later on what happens after school

Thanks

Believe it or not I feel extremely stupid right now. For some reason I was thinking the voltage on the power supply should be set to 220v, so I switched it over to 115v or whatever it is and it booted up with no problem. Thanks for any of the time you've invested in this thread.

Joe,

I'd say, chalk up one to experience! ;) 'Twas a time of learning and growth...and hey, you're up and running! Congrats!

It's all up and running great. The only problem left now is the Mainboard LED, and the internal speaker. Neither of them are working at the moment. I havnt rechecked them or anything though, so they might have just came out or something simple as that. I'll reply when I check it tomorrow or something.

Thanks

PS, Building computers is not as hard as I thought it would be :p
It was quite an exciting experience! I love it :D

Joe,

Check out page 12 in the manual...I've never seen quite so clear a picture of the connectors! ;)
