I'm building my first computer. The components are:
Atx case + Power supply,
Asus p3b-f motherboard
Intel pentium III 650 Mhz CPU
SECC2 CPU fan
64 MB SDRAM
VGA Card
10MB hard disk

I think everything is OK with the wires.
Everything is brand new except for the CPU.
What are the possible causes for this problem?

Thanks

Welcome, Martin! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif There's lots of great information in The PC Guide. Start here (http://pcguide.com/proc/index.htm), then go here (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/index.htm). Good Luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Double check that everything is properly seated, have you tried to boot with the board out of the case, on an insulating surface (like the box or some newspaper), you can also run through the troubleshooter from here (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/index.htm).

Yeah, what those guys said http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
sorry...check the jumpers on the mobo so they match with what hardware you are trying to use.
Don't try to install anything on that HD though once you get it booted...j/k I'm sure you meant to show 10GB hard drive as opposed to 10MB. Now I'm gonna throw a bunch of stuff on the wall and let's see what sticks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif How did you come about that Slot 1 650? Is it E or an EB Coppermine? That board may need a flash to support that processor http://www.asus.com/Products/Motherboard/bios_slot1.html#p3b-f
and might as well look at this one too http://www.asus.com/products/motherboard/pentiumpro/p3b-f/jumper.html now I realise there is a a jumper-free mode, but the board jumpers have to be set first to a Enable Jumper-Free mode (aka Soft BIOS).

"NOTES: In JumperFreeTM mode, all dip switches (DSW) must be set to OFF."

You say VGA card...do you mean that the card is that old? could it be defective?

OK my firt guess is the power supply and/or it's connections or the processor (either not recognized or malfunctioning)Ya see I'm not sure if a bad processor would stop you from powering up the rest of the mobo, fans and stuff...BUT wait, you can't get any power at all to any of the components? Still thinking PS or Mobo....OK follow the advise mentioned in the previous posts and let us know what you've come up with so we can narrow it down a little more.

Sorry for the mass confusion...that wall got messy http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

OK, it was a ground problem. I Isolated the motherboard
and the fan is working now. However, I hear an endless
loop of long beeps and I see no display. It is written
in the manual that such beeps mean no memory detected.
Do I have to insert my 64 MB module in a specific bank?

Thanks

Start with the one labeled 0 or Bank0, or something like that. It should be the one closest to the CPU.
