Hello All,

Could not find the information I need at Compaq site so I figured I'd ask you guys and gals. I have a Presario 7585 and I'm trying to install another stick of memory and it will not go past 191 mb and should read about 256mb Two modules, one PC-100/128 & PC-133/128. Is the speed a problem (pc100 & pc133 mixed)? Does anyone know what the capicity is for this macchine or am I doing something wrong...help :(

This link:

http://www.baber.com/baber/memory/desktops/compaq/presario2.htm

indicates they sell 256meg RAM for your computer, suggesting that this is a valid amount. And this link:

http://wwss1pro.compaq.com/support/reference_library/viewreferencelibrary.asp?countrycode=1000&catid=698&famid=699&prodid=463|Presario_7500

is for the Presario 7500 series and may provide more clues.

And this link:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/techpubs/qrg/presario7500.pdf

is for a pdf that should give you the details you seek.

It shouldn't make any difference what the speed of the RAM is, the 133 stick will just function at the 100 level.

Good luck,
Budfred

Sounds like one is double sided and the chipset will only handle single sided memory. Some early boards (not just Compukes) would only recognize single sided memory, when you use double sided it will only read half of it.
