Hello guys,

I am interested in setting up a Raid on my system and would like any suggestions you may have. I will be using an Abit KR7A Raid board with 2 Maxtor D740X 80gig drives. My system(built it myself) is Athlon based running an XP 1800 processor. I'm not a computer expert nor have I set up a Raid before but this is just for fun. I want the best performance I can get and am leaning towards a 0 setup although I know a drive failure means everything lost. What can I expect performance wise and any suggestions? This system is used alot for gaming as well. My relevant specs:

Abit KR7A Raid motherboard
(2) Maxtor D740x drives 80gig (have one purchased a second)
XP 1800 processor
TI4600 vid card (is this relevant?? I don't know)

Hi,

i'll start with givng you this link: http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/02q3/020830/index.html

and then tell you what it is saying, in case you don't feel like reading it al.

Since Raid0 divides all data between the 2 (or more) disks, writing every next block that file contains to the next disk, you gain read and write speed, since the different blocks that make up the file can be read or written simultaneous to the different drives, instead of sequentially on only one.
