Two days ago, out of nowhere, my system started refusing to boot up. I turn the computer on, it proceeds to boot up the RAM and beeps, but when it finishes that the screen goes blank and the system hangs. Sometimes it will get as far as verifying the DMI pool and proceed to boot up Windows but then it will immediately restart and hang after the RAM check. I built this computer about a year ago and have had no problems whatsoever except for a burnt out CPU fan, which i replaced a few months ago. So far I have tried the usual troubleshooting techniques, taking out everything except the VGA card, etc. Im not entirely sure whether the problem is with the CPU or the motherboard, as I havent checked my CPU in someone elses system yet. Anyone have any ideas? Here are my system specs:
Athlon 800mhz
Abit KA7 motherboard
Asus GeForce 256
384 mb PC133 SDRAM
Windows 98 SE

Did you take th mb out of the case? If you stripped it down like you say and you take the mb out of the case and tried a known good power supply and know good video card you will have to test your cpu cause you are down to that and the mb
