okay,

I just purchase a MP440BX motherboard from overstock.com that can run my P2 450 mhz pentium processor. The reason i did this, is because the old motherboard was fried. I am having trouble configuring it. I put all the wires and connections back to original place. The problem is,whenever the CMOS jumpers are on either Default/normal, or configuration, my computer starts up for a sec and then shuts off. But when i put the jumpers on Recovery, the computer will start and then look for a boot disk. I got the boot drivers and put it in, but the computer doesnt load them. NOthing shows up on the monitor at all and i really dont know what to do. Can some one help me figure this stuff out ???

I had the exact same problem a couple of days ago. I purchased an ABIT KT7A-RAID motherboard had everything plugged up and ready to go, but when I pushed the power button the fans just turned for a few seconds then shut off. I fixed this by discharging the CMOS. First you need to switch the jumper from normal to discharge or clear mode, flip the switch on for about 5-10 seconds put the jumper back into it's proper place, normal mode, flip the power on and it should boot up. That's the way I did it and it worked fine for me.

First you need to switch the jumper from normal to discharge or clear mode, flip the switch on for about 5-10 seconds put the jumper back into it's proper place, normal mode, flip the power on and it should boot up.

Seems like there's a step missing there, or at least it's unclear. I'd do it this way.

Power down
Move jumper from normal to discharge or clear position
Power up for about 5-10 seconds
POWER DOWN
Move jumper back into it's proper place, normal mode
Flip the power on and it should boot up

If you don't do the step in BOLD above, and move the jumper with the power on, there's no way of predicting what will happen, but it probably won't be good. If you have already done it his original way, blame him and see if he'll buy your mobo.

That is an OEM board made by Intel for Gateway. It might be brand new, it might be from a PC that was
assembled but never sold, or it might be from a used PC that was returned after the lease expired and
then pulled and 're-conditioned'. Anyway, I went to Google, typed 'MP440BX', clicked the button, and
found this (http://www.gateway.com/support/techdocs/references/motherboard/4m4pb0x1/4m4pb0x1.shtml) in less than two minutes!.

I think you need to add some links to your Favorites folder, so you can start doing some of this for yourself,
and maybe help some other people too:

Sorry helpmeplz I forgot to tell you too "POWER DOWN." Refer to your users manual for placing the jumper on the correct discharging or clearing pins.

You have a bad attitude tjaymadison. Sorry if I can't copy directions from the book as good as you can.

READ THIS FIRST

When you put the mouse cursor on something that is underlined and click the left button, you will go automatically to another web site. When you click on CLICK THIS below, you will go to Gateway, who has the manual for your board. After you get there, click Favorites on the toolbar at the top of your screen, then click Add to Favorites, and then click the OK button. Now look under the picture of the board for the words System Config. Jumpers in red letters. Click them. Read the instructions to find out how to move and set the jumper.

Are there any floppy disks that came with the board in the package?

You may want to power down and pull the cmos battery for about an hour. Put it back in and see what happens.
