I posted earlier with problems loading a Windows operating system with errors stopping every attempt. Found most of the problems and corrected, running scandisk physical surface check it found some bad spots and attempted to repair, it kept prompting to fix and after 32 fixed it timed out? error 022** or something, then locked up the system by freezing the scandisk screen and had to be shut off to reboot. I am almost positive now these spots are where all my missing files are to download Windows. What do I do to fix the bad areas? Thanks

I write too fast! When scandisk screen comes up"found errors on cluster # *****" it asks if you want to fix. I say yes and it fixes, this repeats several times, 32 to be exact and it timed out? Screen froze and it had to be shut down to exit. I repeated the scan, same effect. This is an older system, dos 6.22.

Invoke your Start-up menu (F8 or Ctl key during bootup), choose DOS prompt (NOT safe-mode DOS prompt).
If this is the same system that you are trying to load Win3.11/95 on and scandisk is doing this and it is hangig on the install I think it maybe time to consider that the hardrive has serious damage to it and either reformat the drive and see if it will block out the bad areas or look around for a new drive for the beast.....
A sudden power failure during a read/write operation couild cause the heads to physically contact the surface of the dirve, especially on older drives, this is the notorious "head crash", it is catastrophic and usually results in the need for the drive to be replaced. Another thing that could have happened is when the power came back on it could have damaged the area where the heads were......(unlikely but possible...)

Although you can "repair" or block out bad areas of a hard drive and keep using it.....the risk of ADDITIONAL damage is VERY HIGH. Get a new hard drive and save yourself a TON of extra work in the near future.

I agree with Randy, a new drive is probably the way to go, if you start blocking out every bad area on an older drive it'll soon be totally useless, I offered the advice about blocking if you don't want to find a drive for that system.
It is an Acer 486DX, it has , I believe 4meg RAM but it could be 16
Is it for this machine?
You can check
here (http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com/) for drives and maybe even memory, because if it is only 4MB you'll have difficulty running 95 effectively...it shoould run but it will be slower than a snail going uphill....
