I am having problems with my athlon 2200 CPU. First ill give you the specs of my system. Athlon 2200, 512 Mbs PC2700 DDR333, ATI Radion 9700 PRO, Soundblaster Audigy Gamer, Gigabyte GA-7VAXP VIA KT400 Motherboard and win XP.

When my comp boots up it says it is running an athlon 1500+ at 1.346 Ghz. In windows in the control panel in the system part it says it is the same as before. when i try to clock it from Bios up to 1.8Ghz it comes up with a bluescreen that says that windown mush shut down at this time to prevent damage to your system. It did the same exact thing with my last motherboard which was an ASUS A7V333. I have a good heat sink and fan on there and the temperature stays at 30'C. the most i can clock the processor to is barely under 1.5Ghz with out it coming back to that blue screen.
please tell me if you have any ideas with what is wrong. thank you

I have read some info about your problem and problems with the AMD 2200XP+. You can check out the site www.amd.com(suggested system configuration for Athlon processor) , www.asus.com.tw, and Tom's Hardware for some additional info about your problem. And as I remember what have I read before Athlon XP 2400+ will a better alternative.

You may need a BIOS update for the motherboard to recognize the CPU and auto-configure it.

When you say that you adjust the speed, how are you doing it? The multiplier should be 13.5 and the fsb should be 133.

Have you checked gigabyte's support website? This may be a known issue with your board and there may be a solution...

Ok, a bit of research yields a possible voltage core problem with your board, try setting the fsb to 135 and see what happens...

I have fixed the prob. the mobo was set to 100 fsb so i changed it to 133 and it is working beautifully. thanks for the help.
