Hi Guys,
What's the best setup for testing motherboards outside a case.
Add Graphic card, PSU, KB, Mouse, Monitor, CPU +Heatsink?
What set up for power on?
How do YOU do it?
Anything I have to watch for, earthing the psu???
What about testing CPU?

Install all that you mentioned, plus memory, fans(specifically the CPU fan), case speaker, and power and restart buttons. You do not have to connect the mouse.
If you do not get a display, then make sure all components are securely seated. If that's ok, then try the memory in different slots, or use just one stick of memory if 2 or more are installed. If still no good, either have components(video card, memory, CPU, MB) tested or swap them out.(There's no way to test the CPU other than installing it on the MB, or have it shop tested.)
If you get a display with the MB out of the case, then install the MB in the case and check for a display again. If none, make sure the metal standoffs are not contacting any printed circuits on the MB and grounding it.

Bare minimum test station:
Motherboard
RAM
CPU & heatsink
Keyboard
Video card
Monitor
Power supply
Power switch for ATX form factor boards
Nothing else. I like a rubber mat to set it on, but a plain wood tabletop works fine. If the motherboard is questionable, use all known good parts, if it won't boot, reseat everything and try again. Same for CPU. In the case of CPU test, make sure it does boot with a known good CPU, then swap for the one you want to test.
Ditto for testing motherboard, it's a hassle, but test the entire setup with a working motherboard first, then swap to the test board.
