I am having a IRQ conflict with a AGP video and pci modem. Is there anyway of changing PnP IRQ? Im running windows 2000.

Not to my knowledge; however, you might have a BIOS which allows the video card to work WITHOUT any IRQ. If familiar, go into Bios and try to find the setting [usually in "Advanced" or "Peripherals" sect].

Thats so odd that you cant change Pnp. It makes no sense to me. I heard if the manufacturer might have a program to change aPnp IRQ. But thats it. Very strange. Does anyone know why you cant change PNP? I guess so you wont mess things up.

You can change the PNP in Bios. From Auto to manual (Resource Control)
But it will require you to set at least some of the slot IRQ's.
This is normally used to add Non Pnp cards. ( Old ISA )

Also depending on the M/B and Bios you have you can assign an IRQ to the video card,
Doing so under some combo's will reserve the IRQ for the Video card and not allow sharing it.
Forcing the modem to be assigned else where.

Another thing to look for in the bios is under PNP/PCI Configuration.
Some allow you to set the Modem IRQ or at least tell it where to expect it to be found.
Check the M/B doc's for the default IRQ for each PCI slot.
Find one that uses the same IRQ as the bios expects the modem to be found on and move the modem to that slot.
If you can't move the card. Then use the Assign a PCI slot an IRQ to force the card (Modem) in that slot to use another IRQ.

The last option may be the best to use.
It forces the IRQ on the modem and PCI slot but doesn't disable sharing .

Rick: I have 98, and a related question. My bios says that the modem is on 3, but in Sys Info, it says it is on 10 with the Trident 3DImage 9750, and with the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering. 3 is free in Sys Info. Found this article http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q182/6/04.asp
and assumed that is why. Accurate assumption?

Tried changing IRQs through BIOS to no avail. Windows overrides BIOs. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

yes that is why it happens.
Even when you have the bios setting for PnP operating system set to no.
another case of PC98/99 standard taking control .

In the bios are you looking at Modem Expected at IRQ3 ?

Win 98se Insists on activating my Raid controller even when it's disabled in the Bios.
Trashing My SCSI card on PCI2.
I have to use the Disable in all profiles under device manager to get the SCSI to work.

I know someone is going to point out that most people don't use PCI2 slot for this reason.
But I have to use it. I can't use PCI slot 1.
Asus put that worthless AMR slot next to SLOT 5 instead of where it would do some good.
Next to the AGP slot to serve as a spacer .
AGP and PCI1 are too close. Restricting air flow to the video chip set
