This screen (below) comes up right after the Win98 logo screen, pauses for a few seconds then it will finish booting to the desktop:

Go to the run box, type in sysedit, then open autoexec.bat and add this as the first line:@ECHO OFF. Save it and reboot.

Now I know that you are probably still wondering what it all meant....

bascially all the lines in autoexec.bat that loaded (looks like a CD-rom) certain devices were set to show up on the screen (echo on) instead of executing "silently" (echo off).
