View Full Version : NTFS freeze...

I've had issues with NTFS on my system. When I've formatted drives in the NTFS format and tried to copy files from a cd, the system locks up.

I originally tried installing XP Pro, but the system would freeze as the files were being copied. Since then I've tried different sized partitions and copying/installing different cds/games... I've swapped the dvd drive for a plexwriter cdrw to see if the drives were th problem, but the freezes kept happening.

The kicker is that when using FAT32, there are no problems. I'm currently running a RAID array (2x80gb WD Special Editions) on this comp, but I noticed the problem previously on an 10gb Maxtor drive.

Any ideas why this could be happening? I'm thinking it must be related to the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU board I'm using, cause what else could be responsible?!?

Anyway, as always, thoughts, ideas, suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated.

If an O/S other than XP resided on a different partition on the 10GB HD, then that may have been the problem, since it's recommended to use FAT in that situation.
If, however, you were installing XP by itself on that HD, then there may be a compatibility issue to blame. If this is the case, then did you try doing a BIOS upgrade?
