The CD-ROM Drive in my new HP Computer has a burner built right in. It is a COMBI RW 16X10/DVD. My OS is XP Home edition. When I insert an Installing CD in the drive, the drive will spin for about 4 minutes. Sometimes it seems to spin at a normal rate of speed and then after awhile I can hear it really pick up a lot of speed. The only way I can get it to stop spinning before the 4 minutes is up is to eject the disk. If I install the program that's on the disk, it will install OK but it will still keep spinning even after the program is installed. If I put in a blank disk or a disk that has only data on it, I don't have that problem. It's only when I put in a disk that has something to install or open--that's when the spinning starts. Thanks in advance for your help.

As long as the drive does what it's designed to do, then I would just let it spin.
But if really bothers you, then get it replaced under warranty.
