Can anyone tell me how to free up the space used by compaq and other computer manufactures that contains the operating system files on a hard disk. Don't need their stuff. Just want the space.

Use fdisk from a boot disk to remove partitions and repartition as you would like.

i had a PackardBell, it had a 2G partition witch you could remove by going into startup/and look for restore and it had the option to get rid of the 2G partition and put it on to 3 cd roms and repartition.
