hi guys,
i am attempting to work on a friends computer. it is a hp vectra 500 series tower. does anyone know how to get the case off of this thing. the product # is d4131a. i feel real stupid, but i have never seen a case like this. it has a slide door in the front that you raise up to get to the cd rom and the floppy drive. it has a little pull out handle on each side. i pulled them out but i still can not figure it out. there is no screws holding it anywhere that i can see. please help a stupid computer tech out. (ha ha). thanks in advance for any suggestions. if you need to know more imfo, please ask. thanks again.

I would look here:

I have a Pavilion and I never would have figured out how to open the damn case without the manual. I involves removing some screws, taking off a panel, folding out a panel with a fan tunnel and so on. Weird setup...

hey budfred,
i thank you for all the help you have provided. i new i could depend on someone in here to help me. what i did was, i do not have that tool that you supposed to have, but i used a flat head screwdriver to work my way around it, and it finally worked it's way off. by the way, i tried that hp website and came up with nothing. that site, well, (what a joke). but anyway, i got everything taken care of, and it is fixed and repaired and ready to go. thanks again for all the help on this matter. you guys have a good rest of the weekend. see ya.

I am glad you got it fixed, but I just want to say one thing:
HP can sure be a pain in the BUTT!!!
I just ran through the manual and they do provide some helpful info, but nothing about opening the case. They really don't want people messing with the innards. I never would have bought mine if I knew how much of a hassle it was to work with it and I never will again!
Okay, that was more than one thing.:D

LOL, how true, here where I work we use ONLY HP computers, I have to open them frequently and hate the hoops you have to jump thrugh.
Oh, did I mention that many of us here at the HP IPG (Inkjet products Group) feel that we should have sold the PC division to Compaq, instead of mergeing, but then we only provid %120 of the company profit, so what would we know!

Hi guys,
I read your discussion about opening the case of the HP vectra 500.
Still I cannot figure out how it has to be opened. the link to HP is not working.
Please tell me the details of how to open the damn case.
thanks.

Sorry christy, but this thread is almost four years old! Please don't dig up old threads, as you are not likely to receive a response. My suggestion is to start your own thread so that your problem can get the attention it deserves.
Also, welcome to the http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Discussion Forums!
Umm...yeah, it is better to start a new thread and then link back to this one. Or drop one of us mods a note saying that the link in the thread is broken.
