i'll start by saying i'm new to this,

i've got a second hand PC running Windows 98 and it's plugged into a 4-way elec supply which runs to one wall socket. i hate reaching under the desk to switch the wall socket off every time i finish using the PC. My problem is this; when the PC is off but the elec supply still connected AN INCOMING PHONE CALL STARTS UP THE PC!!! can anyone tell me how to stop this happening before i lob the thing in a graceful arc onto the main bus route below the front window??? :)

when you shut down your pc do you put it into sleep/stand by mode or do you turn off all power to the pc totally?
because if its in stand by/sleep mode you may have whats called a "wake on modem or nic card" that picks up an incoming call it will power the pc up, try looking at the modem options for wake on modem, also look in your BIOS, others will come.
