Hi. Assuming it is a PCI modem and not in an on-board riser slot, I had the same problem. I just moved my modem to another slot and XP then picked up a "new communications device", then I installed the drivers and it was ok.

In case you don't have another availible PCI slot, you could try removing the modem, restart without it. Then put the modem back in and it may detect it that way.

Hope this helps.:)

FYI - you might expect this thread to be moved to Core Hardware or wherever MJC or Paleo Pete deems appropriate. This forum isn't for questions.

Try installing the modem manually. Download the latest drivers on to your system and install the driver. Also try the workaround suggested in the previous thread.

Hello,
Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried everything what was suggested but it won't work. I either don't have a free Pci slot, so that i couldn't try out that. I've manually installed the modem and downloaded the latest driver. In the hardware device everything seems to be OK.
But i can't still send a fax to someone because the modem can't be found. Is it possible that the confuguration of the COM - PORT isn't ok ? Now the modem uses com 2. A always thought that a intern modem always used com 3 or com 4 ? I only have com 1 and com 2 and a printerport.
Strange :confused:

Does the modem work at all, like for dial-up internet connection?

What fax software are you using? It could be that your fax software is not XP compatible......

Mjc,
For internet i've a externkabelmodem from a telephonecompagny and works good but my intern modem of the PC that i need to fax with is now the problem.
I've installed the faxsoftware from the winXP-CD.
I don't understand why it don't work...:eek:

Ok, if you installed the XP fax software the, that isn't the problem.

So most likely it is a driver problem....do XP drivers exist for it, if not have you tried the Win2k drivers.

Mjc,
When i've installed the driver (for winXP) for the modem there was a message "non certificate signature" (or something like that).
What does that means ?:confused:

With XP MS has moved to a "signed driver" model....meaning that the drivers must pass some level of testing and then they will be "approved" by MS and receive a digital id that XP will recognise and then it will allow the installation to proceed.

If you are trying to install an unsigned driver, it does not mean the driver is no good, dangerous or whatever scare of the week....it just means, for one reason or another it hasn't gone through the MS process. You should, when installing it, be presented with a choice of allowing the installtion to continue.

What possibly happened to you, is since this was an unsigned driver the installation may have aborted and the modem is notactually installed. You can try removing it and then reinstalling the drivers, this time making sure that the installation actually continues beyond the unsigned driver warning.

Mulder,
The following i've done but winXP won't dectect my modem.
So i don't know what to do further.
Maybay it work out by you ?

Installation of the driver 4.47.2 for the Creatix Modem V9x HAM under Windows XP

Installation Instructions
The driver can only be installed, if the PCI-Card is recognized as a new hardware, do not update existing drivers with the instruction “Update driver”.
Existing drivers has to be de-installed. De-install the device at the device manager (Control panel – System). If there is a new operating system and no driver installed, the card should be detected automatically at the device manager (Control panel – System) under “Others / unknown components / devices” as “PCI Communication Device (simple)”.

1. Extract the driver into a temporary directory.

2. De-install the old driver (see also de-installation of the driver after this paragraph) or delete, after a new installation of the operating system, the entry for the modem (“PCI Communication Device”) at the device manager (start – settings – control panel – system – hardware – device manager [classic view] respectively start – control panel – performance and service – system – hardware – device manager[category view]) under “Other components”.

3. Reboot your PC.

4. The assistant for searching new hardware: “PCI-Communication device (simple)” will be started.

5. Choose “Install the software from a list or a special source (for advanced users)” and continue with “Next”.

6. Search this source for the correct driver. Activate “search also the following source” and specify the directory, where you have extracted the driver or search the position with the option “search”. Important is, that you have given the complete path. Confirm this window with “Next”.

7. The PC is searching the given sources and find “Creatix V9X HAM Data Fax Modem”. The software will be installed.

8. Completion of the assistant. The software for the following hardware has been installed: Creatix V9X HAM Data Fax Modem. “Finish”.

9. The modem should be available at the control panel (printer and hardware) under telephone- and modem-options.

De-installation of the driver 4.47.2 under Windows XP

1. De-install (right mouse button) at the device manager (start – settings – control panel – system – hardware – device manager [classic view] respectively start – control panel – performance and service – system – hardware – device manager[category view]) the entry
Creatix V9X HAM Data Fax Modem under Modems

2. Delete in the hidden directory \WINDOWS\INF the file oem*.inf (the * stand for a number, which describes the modem). The oem-files can be opened with a double click.
The file looks in the beginning as follows:
[version]
Signature = $CHICAGO$”
Class=Modem
ClassGUID={4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Provider=%Oem%
CatalogFile=CTXH51.CAT
DriverVer=06/21/2002, 4.47.20
. . .

3. Control in the registration file (start – run – regedit) if the following entries are still existing (only this entries) and delete them.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\P CI\VEN_1813&DEV4000&SUBSYS000116BE&REV_02

4. Now the driver should be deleted and the modem can be removed after shutting down the system, respectively the driver can be installed after a restart.

De-installation of the driver 4.12 under Windows XP
1. De-install (right mouse button) at the device manager (start – settings – control panel – system – hardware – device manager [classic view] respectively start – control panel – performance and service – system – hardware – device manager[category view]) the entry
Creatix V.90 HAM Data Fax Modem under Modems

2. Delete in the hidden directory \WINDOWS\INF the file oem*.inf (the * stand for a number, which describes the modem). The oem-files can be opened with a double click.
The file looks in the beginning as follows:
[version]
Signature = $CHICAGO$”
Class=Modem
ClassGUID={4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Provider=%Oem%
CatalogFile=CTXH51.CAT
DriverVer=08/03/2001, 412.0
. . .

3. Control in the registration file (start – run – regedit) if the following entries are still existing (only this entries) and delete them.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\P CI\VEN_1813&DEV4000&SUBSYS00000000&REV_02

4. Now the driver should be deleted and the modem can be removed after shutting down the system, respectively the driver can be installed after a restart.

Mulder,

I've found the problem. I hope you've the same problem to fix it.

I always would install the modem by "new hardware devices" because winXP didn't dedect automaticly the modem. But i had not seen that there stood (by my hardware device) a question mark bij the device "simple PCI-controller".
I right-click on that controller
- properties
- install the good driver for the modem.

So, problem was fixed.:) :p ;)
