My right mouse button no longer works. I switched mice but same problem

What mouse & what o/s ?

without further info. can only suggest, look in settings> mouse. then swop left to right (or right to left) to confirm mouse & cable ok.

look in device manager, see if any yellow '?'

re-install drivers ?

yeah did the settings left hand/right hand swap - left hand left button dosen't work mouse currently hooked up is a mitsumi serial mouse on an os of win98

Need some more info here......what kind of mouse, what OS, etc....

Along the lines of need more info: did you change anything before the mouse stopped working properly? Did you install new software or hardware? Did you check in Device Manager and what did you find if you did? Did you try reinstalling mouse drivers? Do you have a updated virus scanner and have you run it recently? Have you checked for spyware?

There are lots of things that can mess up your settings. We need more info to try and help.

yeah got a virus in root direct so I reparted the drive formated and reinstalled os and drivers for cd, mouse, vidio, and sound but left all other programs off.

I am guessing that you didn't get all of the virus. Did you zero out the hard drive, turn off the PC to let the RAM clear and then reformat and reinstall. If you had the Klez and possibly others, it can hide itself in a number of places including RAM apparently. If you reformat and immediately reload, it reloads itself from RAM. Nasty little thing. Anyway, I would run the deepest scans you can or simply zero out and start again if you think that is the issue.
