Help... For some strange reason, all of a sudden my Control Panel folder opens on my desktop when I start windows. I have tried looking for registry entries that might cause this, but to no avail. I have tried everything I know. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to stop this? Are there any registry entries that you suggest I look at? Please let me know.

Welcome, royherman! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
On the taskbar, right-click the Start button, then click Open.
Is Control Panel, with a small arrow at the lower left corner
of the icon, shown as one of the items in the list?
If so, highlight it, click File, then click Delete.
The next time you start or restart, Control Panel won't. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

If that didn't work, do this:
Click Start, click Run, type sysedit in the Open box, then click OK.
Click the title bar for C:\WINDOWS\WIN.INI
What is shown on the second line, following Load= ?
What is shown on the third line, following Run= ?

Both the Load and Run portions of Win.ini are null. I am guessing that the problem lies in the registry. I located the binary for the Control Panel and Systematically deleted all entries to try to find the culprit, but to no avail. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Click Start > Run, type msconfig in the Open box, click OK.
Click the Startup tab, and scroll down through the list, looking for
references to 'Control.exe'. If you find any, clear that checkbox.
You will have to restart for the change(s) to take effect.
Deleting references in the registry is risky, unless you back it up first.

I have thoroughly checked MSCONFIG for entries as well as the run and run services sections of the registry. I am well versed regarding the registry. I am really at a loss?????
Have you checked "Open in a new process" check box under folder options -> view?
Is the save settings on exit checked? (same place)
