hello, fellow forum folks.
i noticed that in the task manager that there is a program running called adobe gamma loader. does anyone know what it is and what it does? i'm pretty sure it was installed along with photoshop but if it's not necessary to startup with i'll probably just take it off startup. i'm just trying to boot up faster.
i'm running under win98SE.
thanx

hello
I have everything under run msconfig startup disabled except for my multimedia keyboard and my system starts like a flash shutdown after like 2 seconds and I have no problems with anything.
The only reason that I have the keyboard checked is that if it is not chosen then you dont get the volume etc.. keys to work. This will also apply to some mice.
Also I feel that task manager is useless but I also have a cdrw and a zip drive.
Everything else I feel is not needed.
email me if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the tip kayofcircles. Mine has a program not on the list though. Its SM56ACL. Anybody know what this is?

Looks like it is part of the driver package for a Motorola modem: Here (http://www.google.com/search?q=SM56ACL&btnG=Google+Search) is a Google search on it...

Like I said i disabled all but the multimedia keyboard and I dont worry about my mouse but some people do.
If you go into the startup tab there will be a whole bunch of check boxes and these are the ones that are run at startup. there should be your keyboard mouse and video as the primary ones and then a whole bunch of apps.
I feel if i want an app to be running I will run it it does not need to be running in the background taking up resources.
I have all types of programs and equipment on my system you name it and I probably have it other then a computer cam which is coming soon along with a network card for my dsl.
Never had a problem and doing this actually solved a problem where I could not click on my icons on my desktop to make things run.
so all in all this will not harm your computer and your system will boot up a hell of a lot faster.
