View Full Version : Boot hang after floppy select

I have a pentium running WIN 95 SE. I wanted to boot to DOS, so I held down the F8 key and got the menu. The bottom selection said to boot to
an old version of DOS, and I selected that one. I then got a message
asking where COMMAND.COM was. Sad to say I hit enter (because I was not sure where it was) and the system hung. Now when I try to boot, it always hangs after accessing the floppy. I can boot from a WIN 95 formatted floppy, but if I try to start WIN 95, I get an error saying it can't find HIMEM.SYS even though it is where it should be. It seems I have destroyed something, but I am not sure what. Could the MBR be causing this error?

Welcome, rad! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You said Win95SE -- was that a typo or do you mean 98SE?
Did you upgrade Win 3.1 to 95?

If you can post a listing of your Config.sys and
Autoexec.bat files, that would help.

Me thinks he meant Win95-B http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Try this.......start system......push F8 and choose "Safe Mode"....let us know if you are able to get into safe mode win95.

I actually meant WIN95-B like it said above. I could not boot at all.
I was able to fix it by running sys.com. Thanks for replying. RAD
