I just installed Windows 98 on some donated computers for my friend who owns a daycare center. The computers are old but functioning. My problem is that I am unable top get the display properties to show more than 16 colors. From what I can tell the problem is with the use of the wrong graphics adapter. How do I determine what graphics adapter is appropriate for these old monitors. One is an AST4V model CMC1414AE1. The other two are Magnavox Suer VGA model CM2089JS01 and Magnavox Online model CM2099DU01. The manufacturer's websites don't show any of these models. And the kids can't run their educatioal programs with 16 colors. They at least need high color , although I would prefer true color 32 bit. Can anyone help me and the kids please.

The drivers have to be installed for the video cards(or built-in adapters) in order to display more than 16 colors and 640x480 resolution.

If you do not have CD's or floppies with the correct drivers, then check the computer manuf's website.
If no luck, check the computer's documentation for the video card make and model, and look around the card manuf's site for drivers.

If no you do not have any docs, then go to Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt, type debug, press Enter, type dc000:35, and press Enter.
You should be able to see the make and model of the video card/adapter.

If you do not get sufficient video card info, then after the last Enter type D, and press Enter.
This should give you additional info.
