Hello hi_im_mudd,
Which Operating System?
Where are you finding the information that the drivers are disabled?
Are you using onboard sound, or are you using a PCI card...which one?
Do you have the Sound Card drivers?
Have you tried the Add New Hardware in Control Panel to see if Windows recognizes the Sound Card?
If you have Windows 9x or Me you might want to try heading into SAFEMODE and DEVICE MANAGER and REMOVE the Sound Card and devices related to it. REBOOT and let Windows relocate the device and if you have the drivers direct Windows to the appropriate location.

hiya, im using win98se.IM going into device manager under systems and it tells me i have a pci communication device and a pci multimedia audio device but both have question marks on them..when i check their properties i get a "unknown device" message.I dug alittle further and found the names of 3 drivers that are not enabled but i cant find them anywhere.I did take the computer apart and look for a name to my sound card[i remember something about a sound blaster..before i formated it]but there was nothing there.
Ill think ill take your suggestion and reboot in safemode and see if that helps.

You might want to take you sound card out again and look for any numbers you can find on it. If it has an FCC number, you can look that up to determine precisely what card it is and then download the needed drivers.

I would think that the "PCI communications device" is a winmodem, and the same advice applies to that, i.e. take it out and have a look for any identifying nubers/names.
Drivers for either these cards can probably be found atDriverguide (http://www.driverguide.com/) or Driverzone (http://www.driverzone.com/).
Hope that helps a bit.

PCI Communication Device is a modem.
PCI Multimedia Audio Device is a soundcard.
The question mark <IMG SRC='http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/icons/icon5.gif'> means that u got no driver installed for them.
So u gotta install the drivers for ur modem and sound card. If u don't know which brand they are, take'em out and look for the information written in the chip, eg crystal, creative, motorola, conexant, CT580. And then search for the drivers accordingly.
I did take the computer apart and look for a name to my sound card[i remember something about a sound blaster
This suggests that ur sound card is creative sound blaster PCI.
Go to www.creative.com and download appropriate drivers possibly its Creative SB PCI.
