I have a 1.44 3.5 floppy drive all function work except full format a error message is returned either disk is damaged or is the wrong
capacity. The floppy and cable were replaced with known working units disks format on other computers.I have checked bios settings they are correct. I do not know when this occured. It was present before formatting and reinstall of windows 95b.
The computer is a Pentium 233 with windows 95b with P5hx-B motherboard and award bios.
Any help appreciate thank you

Will it format in DOS ?? Have you tried a different drive?? Have these been formated under DMF?

Its not likely but is the floppy drive configured properly in the BIOS?! 3,5",1.44 must be choosen in the standard cmos setup.

And another thing, some utilities or antiviruses can be configured to allow and disallow certain action to floppy drives, I mean they can be configured to allow read/write, quick formatting the floppy, but disallow full formatting. Even if, only low level formatting of floppy is disallowed by such utilities or antiviruses, u cannot full format them becuz in the case of floppies full formatting means low level formatting as well. If u are using Norton Antivirus, check out the options. Just make sure that its not any floppy disk access locking utility that u installed or ur naughty brother did.

Again, this is also highly unlikely but,
what exactly do u mean by "I have a 1.44 3.5 floppy drive all function work "? if ur "all function works" means only reading from the floppy, then its sure that Floppy Access Method is set to Read Only in the BIOS. If this is the case, set Floppy Access Method to Read/Write Both.
:D
Hope this helps!
