after installing a cd-rw,my cd's no longer auto-run.the autoinsert notification box is checked. please help

i am using win 98 2nd edition... it seems it may have stopped working after installing that...also i put in a cd-rw drive but they both seem 2 work...the cd that came w/ my pc is a goldstar..the cd-rw is a iomega atapi zip drive 12x10x32. i'm not sure exactly when auto-run stopped working. could a bent pin b causing the problem?
