I have a 2 computer network at the restaurant that has encountered a problem. Yesterday all was well until one of the computers went dead. Screen went into a black and white checkerboard. I tried rebooting and it will not boot. HD light doesnt light. I tried new Power Supply and have pulled the battery and replaced. 1 computer boots up but will software will not work because of the "KEY" they have on the system that is down. The computers have been on for a year without powerdown in this enviroment. Any suggestions? Thank You.

Is it Safe to assume that in this case POS = Point of Sale?

Of course, there's no reason why a system can't be both. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Surely there must be some way to reboot this thing. If you had had
a power outage, the situation would be similar.

Company rep? Company web site? Tech support phone number? User's Manual?

Yes Point of Sale sorry. And to answer company tech support or anything....yeah right. That company screwed me from the beginning. Ive left them numerous calls, never have recieved a call back. Besides I think just with my A+ cert. I know more than they do. But anyway thanks for the response.
What do you mean by a power outage being similar? If your talking electrical power outage, it happens all the time in this town, but the puter always reboots. Or are you talking about a Power Supply outage?

Is there any indication that the "dead" computer is getting any power? If so, what is being powered?

Is the dead computer plugged into a surge protector/power strip?

Fan on CPU is working and Fan in power supply. Hard drive light never lights.

Have you tried the HD in another machine?

Yes I did and it works. But this motherboard has no spot for light pen periphial. I put the HD into an old Acer machine so that they could run their reports, but they cannot use it for normal daily operations now. I dont know what you guys think but maybe the motherboard is shot in the old puter? Ive never had a motherboard go bad so I dont know the symptoms.
