Power went out while I was updating the firmware in my external modem. The modem isn't recognized and doesn't work anymore, even the flash utility doesn't recognize it.
Putting the messed up EPROM chip in another working modem and trying to flash didn't help(another working modem was made to be deteced by the Flash utility and then the working EPROM chip in it was replaced by the messed up one).
Is there any way out(to re-program the EPROM chip) without the help of EPROM programming device.
I had one once that the flash hung mid flash and errored out...upon reboot it would wasn't recognised. So I checked it an it was set to PnP, after I jumpered it to com1 IRQ4 I was able to flash it again...now if it is an external you may not have the choice to set it to non PnP. If that is the case then an EPROM burner is about the only route I know, since you have tried the hot swap......

Its a Taiwan built 56K External Modem. The names like "PROLiNK 1456VE D/F/V MODEM", the manfacturer is Pora Corporation. PROLiNK is their brand name, it has nothing to do with Prolink Microsystems.
The chipset is:
Conexant
RP56D/SP
R6764-61
L2800-38
Ain't got one of them in the parts box...:(

Curator,
How unlucky can you be to have the power go out during a flash?
Do we need to have last rites? I'll say a little prayer instead or maybe observe a moment of silence.
