I have attached a Western Digital Caviar 1,083GB and a Samsung 1,083 GB Hard disks in the same data cable. I have tried all the possible positions (master, slave) + jumper settings, and it sems that these two simply CANNOT LIVE in the same cable together (and it also caused the W.D. to stuck, possibly)!!!
Used both win95 and Win98 and old and modern motherboards and Bios.
Any body had ever similar problems with that type of Hard Disks ?!?
Thanks,
Nikos

Will each drive work just by itself as master?

with Win95 works the WD Caviar but definitively noway the samsung!
with win98 work both if being alone as master !!
Any logical conclusion?!?

Put the WD on "Cable Select" ..........then do the same with the Samsung(if first try is unsuccessful.ie WD is cable select & Samsung is master/ then visa versa).....might work for you!
