Hello
Does anyone know what is the fastest AMD CPU I can put on my ABIT KT7A motherboard? Currently I have a 1.2GHz Athlon, but I want to upgrade and want to know up to what I can reach.
Thanx!

Here are the specs from Abit: http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/kt7/techspec.php
It appears that the max is 1.4
Sounds like it might be time to upgrade the Motherboard...

Thanx guys. I hoped I would be able to put XP processor on. I read in the amd forums that some people have achieved that.
But I guess the best sollution when I decide to upgrade is to go for a mobo and cpu upgrade.
Chears...

You probably can install an XP and maybe even get it to work, but it will probably never work up to its potential, so you are probably better off going with a new motherboard.

You're system is already "shooting yourself in the foot" so to speak! :(
I just checked your Athlon 1.2 and it has a 266FSB and since your board only has a 133FSB your MotherBoard (and your RAM) are the bottlenecks right now.
If you go for a Kt400 chipset MB you'd be at 333FSB for future upgrading...but your system would only run at the 266FSB of your current procesor. But it could be an improvement...would then just depend on your RAM...with the Kt400 MB you could go to PC2700 RAM which runs at 333FSB...
At that point your system would be running at the full 266FSB of your processor. Your processor then, would be the only bottleneck to parity "across the board" (love that phrase!:D)
So, bottom line is that your current processor is already to fast for your system...

Wrong. It's the KT133a chipset...133mhz x 2 remember? ;)
