For about a week now, my PC periodically (every couple of hours after running for about 6 hours), starts a ringing alarm-type noise, and the 'on' green light starts flashing.

This goes on until I either shut off or otherwise reset and restart the computer.

The noise is quite loud and can be heard all over the house - almost like a fire alarm.

Today, I ignored it and after about 20 minutes, it stopped but resumed after another 20 minutes.

Since it started last week, its frequency seems to be increasing, once it starts.

I will appreciate any assistance.

My PC is a Pentium 450 128 Meg RAM, 20 gig hard-drive, R/W CD-ROM, and running Windows 98. Also, I have installed no new software nor made any hardware changes or additions recently.

If this is related to your other post 'BRRRR', why start a new thread?

Alarms are basically for two things: 1. To let you know the CPU is operating at too high a temperature for it's safety 2. To let you know the CPU FAN is rotating too slowly. Pretty narrow area to troubleshoot!
