Hi: During lightning storms I not only have a surge protector But I like to unplug my PC all together when I am not home. I heard that soon or later it will where down my battery that controls the date and time etc. in my pc. I want to know where is this battery and is it hard to replace? I have Windows 98SE and a blue light computer made by LG INTERNATIONAL INC. I know some batteries just pop out and some are soldered on! Are they hard to get too(also)? Thank you TOM

Leaving the computer unplugged for an extended period of time will indeed cause the battery to wear out quicker, but unplugging for a few hours at a time shouldn't have much of an impact on its life span (3 - 5 years).

As to replacing it, you need to open the case and it will be on the motherboard, most often they are a silver disk about the size of a quarter and yes most of them do pop right pout, these days.

Most batteries can be bought either from a reputable PC outlet, or failing that try a watch repair centre.

Most nowadays look like large watch batteries, but not always the case.
