Hi

Just built a Duron 1.3Ghz with Elite K7S5A mobo and a Coolermaster DP5-6J31C Sink and fan rated up to XP2100 which spins at 5000RPM

Problem is the BIOS Hardware Monitor and Sisoft Sandra Pro both show the fan speed at <2500 RPM.

Tried changing the sink and fan but exactly the same speed.
Took the fan and tried it on my second system where it was seen as <2500RPM even though the manufactures data suggests 5000RPM

Currently the CPU runs around 45C once stabilised.

Any ideas guys...is 45C ok ??

Have a Cool Xmas 8 )))

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

Are you sure the fan is not temperature controlled. I just put a Volcano 7 on the same board and I know that one is temp controlled. 45C is fine for that chip, have you tried running CPU intensive programs? If you hear it gearing up to higher speeds when you do, that is a good clue that it is temp controlled. On another thread, someone just said that you are not likely to fry the chip until the temp gets up to 90C, which is just a few degrees below boiling.

Hi BudFred,

Thanks for your feedback on my low revs fan. I dont think this one is temperature controlled as they tend to cost a little more than the £5.50 I paid for this from EBuyer.com although PC World charge £10 for the same item.

I think I'll try and get an Aska fan and fit that onto the Coolermaster heatsink which is quite large - I know for a fact that Aska fans are recognised as 5000RPM in my BIOS and also by Sisoft benchmarking software.

Maybe the new Coolermaster "Quiet" series are quiet only because their speed is so low 8 )))

On the K7S5A, considering its a cheap mobo, I am quite impressed -despite the problems many people have had using 133/266 front side bus, its quite happy with the Durons with their 100/200 FSB - ideal for a cheap workstation, but with all the advanced features of a top mobo.

Merry Xmas to all
