My hard drive is filled up. I have a new one to put in, but I am unsure of all the things I need to do. For instance, how can I transfer everything from my old drive to my new one? And is there anything else I need to do to the new hard drive?
Thanks

there are a few ways to do this but to save yourself some hassles. Go to a computer store and buy a copy of Drivecopy from PowerQuest.Or PartitionMagic
It allows you to do just what you want. It's all automated, and it's a
fairly cheap piece of software ($25.00 or so). You can transfer your
small HD to a same sized partition on the new HD, you can scale your
partitions from the small HD to the new one. (So, if your C drive was 50% and your D drive was 50% of the original then each partition would take up 50% of the space on the new device). All sorts of options are
available.
I'm sending you a link For PartitionMagic 8 via PM (can't post it here} it's free so don't mind the pics.. can't help that but the files are very safe..(already checked them out..and have used it}seems you don't want PM's check your email

You can basically do everything Yoda has suggested, but with the help of the disk management tools from the manufacturer of your new harddrive. And, it's free. You will have to go to their website and download their disk tools. Follow the instructions to make a bootable floppy. Then power down and install the new harddrive as master on the primary channel and the old harddrive as slave on the primary channel. Boot the system using the disk management software. Follow the instructions for partitioning and formatting the new harddrive. Then, there should be an option to copy all contents of the old harddrive to the new harddive. Piece of cake.

Hi BB66!
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I used (Maxblast) software to do the very thing you mentioned- (Quite a while ago!).
It worked fine with one minor difference...
I happened to find the instructions from my original sheet and it stated as follows:
If you don't have the diskette download the software and it will create one for you. The following are instructions on how to select the drive copy option.
1.The source (old) drive needs to be configured as the primary master and the target (new) drive needs to be configured as the primary slave or secondary master.
2.Insert diskette and restart machine.
3.The program will load.
4.Select the language of your choice.
5.Answer the questions that apply.
6.View the License Agreement.
7.Select Advanced Options.
8.Advanced options will bring you to another screen. You will want to select "Copy Entire Partition".
9.At this point you will want to follow the on-screen instructions.
Just curious- Can the new drive be master (as you stated) or must the old drive be master as stated in the Maxtor instructions above? ( I don't really recall anymore how it went, whether that was a misprint, or it could be done either way.) :)
Have a nice day!

Thanks for the replies. They have answered my questions, and even given me options.
