My power supply fan does not run consistently. I bought a replacement but when I opened up the power supply box, I noticed my current fan is hard wired to the power supply. Also, the existing fan only had two wires, while the new one had three wires ending in a 3-pin plug - which looked like it would fit on my motherboard, if it reached. Any suggestions? Do I need to suck it up and buy a whole new power supply just to replace the fan?

My method is to snip the wires at the circuit board, then mount the new fan after removing the old one. Then, run the wires from the fan through the plastic wrap that holds the rest running from the power supply. Once outside, simply connect one end to the CD-ROM or hard drive, whichever is easier and then connect the power connector that was attached to the device you just disconnected to the other end of the connector. The connector is a standard molex connector, which is the same used for CD-ROM's, Hard Dries and such. Hope this helps.

My question would be is it worth saving? What is the wattage? I'd say if its below 300 suck it up and buy a new one.....they aren't that expensive. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
