HI: I am running Windows98SE and today started a New Problem! After signing on my Netzero service everthing was fine until I looked down at my Start up taskbar at the very Bottom of my screen! IT WAS NOT THERE AT ALL So I hit the CTRL+ALT+DEL and on that screen it said the msgsrv32(Not Responding) Everything else worked fine, I had to re-start my pc and it was ok again. This happened 4 times today! Does anyone know what causes this and what do I do to fix it? Thanking in Advance TOM

Hello Tom,
If you have any programs that are checking your mail automatically for you turn them off and it should fix this problem.

Hi Aware: I used Yahoo and mail station and mail2Web to check my mail in the past and sometimes still do. Are these considered to be AUTO matically programed? I thought they were only used if I activate them,But I don'tr know that much about them. Please let me know what you think? Thank You TOm

Tom,
Im not really farmiliar with any of those.......(I only use outlook and nothing else for mail)
If any of them automatically inform you when you have new mail, then yes those would be the ones Im referring to......
Im not 100% sure on this but "Im pretty sure" msgsvr32 is short for "message server 32" has to do with informing you when you have a new msg, and as far as I know, the only time this program ever runs is when its checking for a new msg.............
Furthermore it seems to crash alot http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Im sure you could find further information about msgsvr32 on the MS website
OK well maybe not hehe I just tried and didnt get much back......
At any rate im pretty sure about what I posted, look for something that might be running that may be checking for new mail on a regular basis...........
Also something like "Mail Station" sounds like it might be something that would use msgsvr32 even if its something you manually initiate......I Really not all that sure what mail station is but it sounds like it checks multiple email accounts from a single program? this would probably be a good place to start..........
I set up AIM to check my mail for me automatically for a bit a while back, and it used to crash my comp every night at midnight with a msgsvr32 not responding error. After I figured out I couldnt get it to work correctly I tried a few other ways to have my comp tell me when I had new mail, but nothing ever worked correctly, always had that msgsvr32 error with every program I tried. ( I figured out if I had it check for the mail at a different rate of time, I had less problems but eventually there was always that error sooner or later) Eventually I gave up, now I only use Outlook, and my lazy butt has to actually hit the mouse button a couple times to find out if I got mail hehe.....I searched the web "quite thouroughly" for help, but all I ever found was other people with the same problem and no solutions......the new version of outlook in XP "Im pretty sure" has multiple out boxes, so I think the need for such programs will be disappearing very soon........

This may be a NetZero problem. Check their site for FAQ or troubleshooting tips.

hmmm yeah thats an interesting page there at MS, (Still isnt all that forthcoming with the info heh)
I guess they are trying to say msgsvr32 doesnt like it when you have pwr mgmt turned on?
I dont use much pwr mgmt and I dont remember if I had it turned on back when I had all those problems before (might have), but Im sure it crashed other times when the comp was 100% active and awake.....it would explain the crashes at midnight posibly though......
Kinda odd when I did a search of MS for msgsvr it didnt turn up that page in the results............anyways.....Good Luck!

What I meant by what I said is hopefully less confusing then the contemplation of the question that led to the confusion in the 1st place.......

Saw the topic & noticed this is **ONE** of the things which has also caused my ME system to crash, so I turned it off in MS Config (one of many, many things, along with power management). Odd thing is I have NO multiple e-mails (other than unrelated hotmails) and NO program/service to check them! I think SO MUCH of what causes problems is stuff like this, half baked, ill-thought out "features" that few really need much and which are added just for the sake of "more".
