My problem is...

My Hard Drive, DVD-ROM and CDRW all have the same problem.
If I just have the Power Supply wires connected to them, they work just fine, drives open, lights are on, I can hear the HD start spinning.

But..

When I plug the IDE connector into them, they seem to shutdown and stop working. DVD-ROM and CDRW dont open. CDRW light is on, doesnt blink or turn off. No light on DVD-ROM. Hard Drive doesnt spin.

im pretty sure the ATX power cable is correctly in the motherboard

Primary IDE Connector-
Hard Drive - Single

Secondary IDE Connector-
CDRW - Master
DVDROM - Slave

Thank You for your help. Also thank you for attempting to help. :D

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

The first thing I would do is make sure that the power and cable connectors are all connected properly, that they are not reversed. Assuming that proves to be ok, I would next check BIOS settings to make sure that the system is set to Auto Detect all IDE devices and PCI devices. If need be, reset the BIOS to default and try that.

If these options don't help, post back with more info on when the problem started, is this a new build or upgrade or what? Also, more detail about the system may be helpful in trying to help you.

All the connectors are in the right place.

If i just plug in the monitor to the computer will BIOS pop-up? or does my Hard Drive have to work?

More info on system -
(its a new build)

AMD Athlon XP 2400+
1024 DDR RAM
GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB
Western Digital 75GB 7200RPM
Plextor 48x24x48x CD-RW
Lite On 16x DVD-ROM
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
Asus A7V266-E Motherboard
Sony FD 1.44MB (not sure if this works)

I guess thats all you need to know.
Oh yeah, the problem started today. (the first full day I spent building this computer.)

Ok, if it is a brand new build, there are other things to check. First I would try to boot with just the CPU, power, 1 stick of RAM, video and monitor. See if you get a beep with POST and if anything comes up on the monitor. If you get something on the monitor, it should indicate how to get into the BIOS, usually by pressing DELETE or F10 or something similar. However, if it is a brand new board, the it should already be set to defaults and that should work to detect your drives. It is a good idea to add one component at a time when you find that the previous component is working. If the minimal boot works, shut down completely and add the Floppy drive. Try booting again. If it doesn't work now, you know that is where the problem is. Post back whatever you find and we will try to help.

I have concluded that the source of the problem was the motherboard.
So I am sending it back and i should have a new one by Saturday.

I tried my Hard Drive, DVD-ROM, Video Card all on my current computer, and they worked fine. But on the newer one, they didnt work.

So when I get my motherboard I'll let you know how it turns out! ;)

Thanks for your help! :D
