Well I bought a NIC (TE100-PCIWW) off the internet for my old computer so I could link it up with my newer one I am building. Well I installed it and installed the drivers and everything seemed fine but then I noticed I had no sound. So I went into system and every thing said it was fine and there were no conflicts so I got on the internet to look for drivers. I found out I had the newest one. I tried reinstalling the drivers and to test it again I tried to watch something on DIVX but it was extremely choppy and there was still no sound. So after looking around on the website for a FAQ or something I just gave up and took it out. Now everything works great again but I really want to use it. So if you can give me any suggestion please help me.

There is a conflict and I would try a different PCI slot.

I'm assuming you mean that you took out the NIC card? NIC cards often seem to be troublesome. I would try another slot as suggested above and I would also see if you can manually change the IRQ and/or other settings for the NIC. You might also want to email the maker of the card to see if they know about this problem and have a fix.

You might want to have a look in Device Manager and check on the Sound and NIC and see if there are any conflicts.
For some reason it seems that the NIC and Sound Cards seem to zero in on the same IRQ.
What Motherboard are you using?

Thank you. I moved the NIC to another PCI slot and it did the same thing again so I moved it once more and it worked.
THANKS!

Congrats:
What you had was an IRQ conflict with the sound card. In the OLD days you could change the IRQ on the NIC card. With plug N pray each PCI slot is assigned an IRQ so you keep trying till you get a free one....

Most sound cards like to grab a hold of IRQ 5.
A lot of NICS do the same.
This is one of the problems with plug and pray.
Some devices are happy to share IRQs (well, happy is probably not the right word!)others just sulk.
