Could any one tell me why after coming off of standye I know longer have the use of my keyboard? (and occasionally my mouse) I have tried the following two remidies.
1 re-boot and everything is back to normal
2 (Don't shout at me for this one because I know I should not do it. But I tried it as an experiment.) Disconnect the keyboard (and mouse when it occurs)whilst the comp is up and running and then re-insert it. Keyboard works again.
Device manager shows nothing wrong and there are no conflicts. IRQ for keyboard is 1. When APM is turned off I never loose ether of them. Also no "ghost" devices in safe-mode

I unplug keyboards and mice all the time. Nothing bad ever happens , so I don't know what the big deal is on that one.
Anyway,to answer your question it depends on what type of BIOS you have. Some things to check are:
1 Do you have any LTP,COM or IRQ power management settings in the BIOS?
2 What are your "wake-up" events?
Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Is it a USB keyboard?
If it is a a USB keyboard then "hot swapping" it will re-intialize it, without any problems, if it isn't a USB keyboard, you should try not going into stand-by until you isolate the problem...try here (http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/tshoot/apm98/)

No.
I don't see what good it does and it seems to cause problems.
Like that other BIOS goodie "DMI pool data".

I can't even count the number of programs that have "turn off all power management features" as part of their troubleshooting process...

I personally do this as part of my shut down & power managemment .
During boot up , press Delete & in the Power Management page , make
sure it is set to Disable .
During install , no screensavers are selected . To remove , there
are many ways . One is to Open up Control Panel , select Add/Remove
Programs & click on Windows Setup . Go down to Accessories & click
on details . Untick Screensavers .
While Control Panel is open , click on System , then Device Manager .
Click on the + next to System devices ( down the bottom ) & if
Power Management ( or a similar name ) is there , delete it .
I then setup Power Management ( In Control Panel ) the way I like it ,
( set the screen to shut 1st & the power later ) I never have any
problems . John .

Howdy,
I use Standy By all the time. However, I have all Power Management turned OFF in both BIOS and Windas.
Cheers,

Hi there guys
Sorry to take so long getting back. First thanks for the replies.
Keyboard is PS/2
Power functions as follows
Always on - Monitor never (switch of front button) - Stand by 30 mins -Hard drives 1hour - all Power mangement tuned off in BIOS. As I am a Scotsman, and tight fisted, I prefer to have comp go on stand by.
BB could you enlarge on your post. How can you have Power man turned of and still use standbye http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif
