My brother was running windows me on a P3 500E with 256mb RAM. Suddenly it went blue screen and said Memmory Parity Error. System Halted. That's it, no codes, nothing, just blue screen. After a little bit of trouble shooting, I removed one PC100, still got the error, then switched it with the other PC100, still get the error.
The computer loads up, scandisk starts because of an improper shutdown, then, bang, the computer restarts!
What do I need to do? Any suggestions? Thank you for your time!

Well there's his problem right there! :p Hehe, couldn't resist. :D
Ok, can you get into the BIOS options at all? Does it get that far? If you can, try disabling fast POST (if it isn't already disabled).
Also, has anything drastic happened to this PC lately? Any static shocks or being dropped, etc?

Memmory Parity Error
I did have mix matched memory, I was un aware of this for quite some time. I seem to have it working, after turning off the ECC in the BIOS. Thank you for your reply.

Were glad you got it straightened out...And welcome to PC Guide..
If you go to Crucial memory's web they can tell you what type of memory that your machine will take just type in what kind you have and it should give you some choice's...

I had some mixed RAM in the pc I'm using as I type and never had probs. Couple pc133 128m sticks. I guess my mobo has a cast iron gut... An' it don't need no Aunt Acid neither ;) Right now, the 2 sticks match. (until my new order comes in ;) I owe one of the ones I'm usin' back to my son cuz he got the first 256 stick an' I was the one to order it!! We put it in his rig jus' to test it, and it stuck like glue!!! So I borrowed the 128 till my 256 gets hear... (ok ok next one's a 512..)

...but it's a public based forum and most everyone would appreciate knowing the outcome as it helps all involved learn. AAMOF the mods even mention not to put replies in their e-mail/PM's.
I don't see anything about being able to enable/disable Error Correction in my manual on my VIA bios'ed motherboard. So anything you post makes for good reading.
Oh, almost forgot... Welcome to

Please 'set a spell' and 'spin a few yarns' of your own experiences if you like. :p
Edit:
And when I looked up ECC (us old pharts (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19884)are sometimes acronym challenged) I found the majority of referrences to This Site (http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/E/ECC_memory.html) .

Ok everyone. Thank you for welcoming me to the board. I appologize for not posting the reply earlier, as I tryed to explain I was just trying to catch the user before they left the page. Wether PM's work like that or not, I am not sure. I thank everyone for reading/replying to my post, and will read/reply to posts as much as my little knowledge allows.
Thanks again!!
