Upgrading Compaq 575 with Windows 98. When booting, get Plug & Play message that 'PCI Input Controller' found; 'Standard IDE/ESDS HD Controller' found. The Standard IDE HD controller is installed and working, but Windows re-installs it anyway, giving me two installed, according to the Device Manager, with one not working.

I know what the PCI bus is, but what's a PCI Input Controller?

The computer works OK if I ignore both P&P messages.

Can anyone help?

As there are two copies of the device being installed, try disabling one of the devices, by choosing 'disable in all hardware profile' option.

You might want to try disabling OS PNP in BIOS and then Remove the bad device.

I couldn't find anything on the PCI Input Controller and manage to crash Netscape looking for it...
