I am working on a Gateway G6-400c. When the power cord is connected all that comes on is the green light beside the power button, the cd-rom drive and you can hear the hard drive spinning. Nothing else happens and nothing comes up on the screen. I have already checked the power supply and it is good. Could it be the motherboard?

Welcome to the PC Guide!
We could use a little more information on your system. Type of motherboard, CPU, harddrive, video card - onboard or separate card. Some of this information may be in your manual or you may need to look in the box.
Open the case and see if all the fans are working especially the CPU fan. If so then the next step is to figure out if the computer is posting. When you turn it on does the computer sound and look right. Does the hard disk access light come one. How about the floppy - is that device accessed. Are there any unusual beeps.
If the computer appears to be booting properly but you can't see anything on the screen, then you would suspect the video card or monitor. If the monitor works on another computer then it's the video card.
Get back to us with the details of your system and a description of what appears to be happening during the boot.

Welcome to PCGuide !! :) :( :D
Try starting the PC with the minimal setup. Just the processor, kb, memory, display connected to the mobo. Performing step by step troubleshooting would help.
