Well after about 45 min. of inactivity my computer will go into suspend mode. This usually wouldn't be a problem but if I am downloading a large file and it goes into suspend mode it will interrupt my download. The weird thing is it only seems that my video(maybe monitor) goes into suspend. Because if I am downloading a file my HD light is still blinking and I can hear the HD working. But the video will not come up. I have to hit the power button to the the video back which interrupts my downloads. I have windows power management scheme set to "Always on". At first I though it might have been the BIOS. I played around with all the BIOS things no changes.. plus I can leave it in DOS mode(not under windows) for hours on end and my video(monitor?) will not goto sleep. I just recently upgraded. This is when the probelm started. This did not happen on my old computer. I transfered all my stuff from my old computer to a new one. I formatted my HD and did a clean install of windows. My new motherboard in a VIA KT133a Chipset. I have the latest VIA 4-1 drivers installed. I have even tried older ones.. same thing...

Any suggestions? thanks

hey

right click on any blank space on your desktop.

left click properties.

click Screensvaer TAB.

click Settings.

change to "always on", and the bottom settings all to "never".

I know the "Always On" power scheme sets all settings to Never.. They are all set to never .. still does it.

is it a name brand computer?

what model monitor?

a bit more system info may help.

edit: your system is going into "Stand by" not suspend- if your HDD is still working.

personally, I use no power management settings at all.

I'm looking into your problem, others may join in as well.

had you gone to control panel and "Power Management" settings??

can't hurt to check there.

also, perhaps disable screensaver completely.

I had a similar experience with an IBM. The problem never seemed to happen with the original processor but became a nuisance after a processor upgrade. I had disabled the bios power management feature totally and I still had issues (mind you IBM's manual said BIOS power management options would have no effect if I was using Win 98)

In any case, I enabled the power management in bios BUT disabled all of the individual options (CPU sleep state, hard disk, etc). I then tailored the times I wanted with win98se power options and it has been smooth sailing. I have a p2 laptop that goes into sleep and never wakes; I've tried every variation but had no luck. The laptop has "questionable" origins and I have to guess that the "manufacturer" used a bios borrowed from the dumpster at Award...
