Hi,
I was wondering If it is possible for me to mix PC100 SDRAM with PC133 SDRAM. I have a couple PC100 memory chips that I want to put with my PC133 RAM. Will this have adverse effects on my system? Or is it perfectly OK and a sane thing to do.... thanks
Peter

yes, you can mix them-the only affect that should have is that your PC133 memory will run at PC100 bus speed. Honestly that's kind of a waste, i know you don't want to get rid of good memory-but if you're going to use the PC133, then you could put the PC100 on something like eBay, sell them and replace them with other PC133-so you can keep the advantage of the faster PC133 bus. But should you choose to continue to use them, there should be no problems, but as in life-there are no garuantees http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Not to butt in, but just to clarify something...memory (pc66, pc100, pc133) will run at whatever speed you set it to, if you set it too high, it will fail...

So, the question here is: what system are you putting it in? If the fsb is 100, then pc100 and pc133 will both do just fine...

If the fsb is 133 (like in a P3) then the pc100 will attempt to run at 133 since this is what the fsb will be set to by default, your pc100 might be able to do it, but if not, it will cause the system to crash...

The memory is not going to make the fsb different, this is something you set in the bios or that the mobo sets based on your cpu and what it's fsb should be...

So, if you're running a 450mhz P2 (which has a 100mhz fsb), and you run pc133 in it, it will not run any faster unless you overclock it...conversely, if you stick pc100 in a 933Mhz P3, it will run (or fail) at 133mhz unless you underclock it by adjusting the fsb...

If your system has pc133 in it already, and it has a fsb of 133, then your pc100 MIGHT work, it depends on the quality of the ram...if you underclock your fsb to 100mhz, it will work, but like iisbob said, you'll lose some cpu speed...

If your system has a 100mhz fsb, then it doesn't matter what kind of ram (pc100 or pc133) you run, it will not affect the speed at which the cpu runs...
