View Full Version : Finding out what type of processor I have...

I know I'm a frequent "patron" of this board, and I appreciate the help I've found here thus far. As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm trying to find out what speed my processor is: I got it from a friend, I have no way of telling what kind it is besides looking at the physical processor itself. I was told that the information I'm looking for would only be found by taking off the fan: however, from some of the research I have done on PC guide so far, it seems like the heat sinks are "glued" on by some sort of compound. Any helpful suggestions would be most welcome!

I wanted to add that I am positive that the processor is an Intel Pentium II with an SECC form factor.

If you go the following link and download the Sysmark 2001 benchmarker it will give you the details you want.

The only problem is, that I am building a system here: I cannot put the processor in a motherboard until I know the speed so I can set the jumpers correctly. How can I find out its speed using software if I can't run a computer using it yet?

If it's a P2, there should be printing on the top of the cartridge that will tell you what it is (I'm calling the part you would see when it is plugged in the top)...
It should look like the stuff at:

Thank you soooo much to the last fellow who posted that site! That told me exactly what to look for! I went onto Intel's website, and was then able to decode what those markings meant! So, I now know that I have, for sure, an Intel Pentium II 233 mhz processor. Thank you again for your help!!
