Hi,
I assembled another old computer, a 386 Nokia/ICL Mikromikko (ever heard?)
I got problems, when I updated the motherboard to a similar 486. When I boot Win95 or Dos6, the extended memory cannot be found, and therefore himem cannot load.

About the computer design: it resembles the LPX formfactor, http://www.pcguide.com/ref/case/formLPX-c.html
but with only the ISA-bus on bottom & the motherboard(with memory &cpu) as a sticup-card, alongsigde all other ISA cards.

Everything works as long as I have the 386- motherboard, but when I used the 486-board (with even the same memory blocks) I got the problems.
The changing of the 386 motherboard to the 486case worked fine, but the case was glued together with prctically nothing, so I discarded it (I didn't have a 486 cpu then (your free to tell me how stupid this was of me)).

I've asked many guys for tips, and all they came up with was the himem parametres. This is not the problem, as ,if I understand correctly, himem cannot load, due to lack of memory above 640 kB.

Hi;

Go to the following knowledge base article at Microsoft and see if this helps;

Thanks danleff, but it didn't help.
I belive that the problem is hardware-based, as the same HD does boot in any other computer.

P.S. How on earth did you find the article over at microsofts? I couldn't even find matches to the words dos or windows...

Some 486 BIOS require that you set the base amount in Setup first. Enter the BIOS and then see if you have the option to assign an amount of maemory as the base amout...and set it for 640K.
