http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/confused.gif Random reboot - doesn't detect sound and dvd rom
My machine got hit by lightning. I took it to technician. So I had to replace Motherboard (Biostar), Modem and Processor. I haven't changed memory and power supply. After this I formated the disk, installed Win98 and drivers.
Now it randomely reboots. Whenever it reboots it doesn't recognize the sound (ie audio) and dvd rom. If I shut it down and push some cable on m-board and start it detects.
Even I pulled out dvd rom cable and tested, it reboots again randomely.
I have changed my memory with other one still it happens.

I couldn't figure out, why is this happening.
Can some one help me in this, before I take'em to shop again.

Well, the obivous question is which cable?

Also, if it was fried by lightning why didn't the power supply get replaced?

Some of your problems maybe a faulty power supply, if the voltage drops to a certain level when a device is being accessed (lets say a cd drive) it could cause the computer to think the reset command had been sent...

mjc,

It's the cable which connects motherboard and dvd-rom.

Try a new cable...if it isn't seating properly or holding well the connector may be deformed or slightly out of spec. A loose or intermittant connection can somtimes also trigger a reboot.
